Trench and Competent Person
OSHA 1926/CFR 1926.650
OSHA 1926 Subpart P, Excavations and Trenches, requires a Competent or Qualified Person be present on any job site where an excavation (including trenches) takes place.
Trenches and excavations are the sites of hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries each year because of the special dangers they pose including asphyxiation, entrapment, and exposure to toxic chemicals. In view of these facts, OSHA developed CFR 1926.650.
