OSHA 1926 Subpart P, Excavations and Trenches, requires a Competent or Qualified Person on any job site with an excavation, trenches included. Trenches and excavations cause a number of deaths and injuries every year because of their particular dangers: asphyxiation, entrapment and exposure to toxic chemicals.
